The NFL is actively planning to bring regular-season games to Asia in the near future, following its announcement of a historic 2026 game in Australia. According to Commissioner Roger Goodell, “If you’re going to be global, you have to do it beyond Europe, beyond the Americas. You need to reach into other areas and territories, and next year we’re going to Australia. We have plans to go to Asia shortly thereafter.” While no specific Asian cities or countries have been confirmed, the league’s commitment to global expansion means fans can expect official announcements soon.
College football has deep roots in Japan, with a rich history of American gridiron play dating back to the 1930s. The country boasts a passionate local scene, including the Japan X Bowl. While no major U.S. college football games are currently scheduled for Japan as of 2026, the success of past international matchups and the NFL’s renewed interest suggest that more games could be on the horizon.
