Two fan groups. Two legendary hosts. Sydney, Melbourne, and the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia. Sports Fans Travel brought both sides of the rivalry Down Under.
When the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams headed to Melbourne in September 2026, Sports Fans Travel was there for both sides. We hosted 49ers fans with Jeff Garcia and Rams fans with Isaac Bruce, combining Sydney and Melbourne sightseeing with hosted events and a historic game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Sydney came first. After the journey across the Pacific, a welcome breakfast at InterContinental Sydney gave guests a chance to settle in before exploring. The harbour, The Rocks, and the Opera House were waiting — along with plenty of opportunities to show Australia their team colors.
Each fan group had its own Sydney Harbour Happy Hour at The Oriana’s Bridge View Deck. Drinks, hors d’oeuvres, waterfront views, and group photos with Sydney’s landmarks made a memorable start to the week.
Both itineraries included a private Blue Mountains excursion featuring Featherdale Wildlife Park, koala group photos, Scenic World, the Three Sisters lookout, and lunch at Conservation Hut. Football brought everyone to Australia, but there was plenty to experience along the way.
Guests could also choose the optional Wild Wombat & Kangaroo Tour from Sydney or the Great Ocean Road and 12 Apostles excursion from Melbourne. Free time left room for harbour walks, cafés, markets, and exploring at their own pace.
Then both groups headed to Melbourne, checked into InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto, and got ready for the football half of the adventure.
Melbourne started with a legend for each side of the rivalry. Rams fans kicked off their stay with Isaac Bruce at Storyville’s Enchanted Forest, gathering for food, drinks, and a night with their host. Across town, 49ers fans joined Jeff Garcia at QT Rooftop for happy hour and skyline views.
The hosted experiences continued with separate Q&As: Isaac Bruce for Rams fans and Jeff Garcia for the Faithful. Each group had time to hear stories, talk football, and enjoy the personal moments that make traveling with a team legend so memorable.
The night before the game, both groups took their celebrations onto the water with separate Riverboat Pep Rallies. Rams fans cruised with Isaac Bruce; 49ers fans cruised with Jeff Garcia. Food, drinks, DJs, and Melbourne skyline views set the scene for a night of anticipation.
Royal and sol on one side. Red and gold on the other. Different chants, different legends, and the same excitement about seeing their teams make history on the other side of the world.
On game day, both fan groups came together at The Glasshouse for our Australia Tailgate with Isaac Bruce and Jeff Garcia. All-you-can-eat food, a full open bar, a live band and DJ, giveaways, and fan activities got the morning started.
With the Melbourne Cricket Ground just a short walk away, the tailgate was the final stop before kickoff. Fans from both sides had spent the week exploring Australia and celebrating with their legends. Now it was time for the rivalry to move from the party to the field.
For Rams fans and the Faithful alike, this was the moment the trip had been building toward: walking into the MCG to see their teams play in Australia.

Our flight-package guests began their journeys back to Los Angeles, closing out a week of Australian sights, hosted celebrations, new friendships, and historic football.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 27–7 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 11, 2026, local time, opening their season with a victory in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia.
Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes as San Francisco pulled away from its division rival. The 49ers led 10–7 at halftime, then scored 17 unanswered points after the break while holding the Rams scoreless in the second half.
The result gave the Faithful plenty to celebrate. For Rams fans, it was a tough finish on the field. For both groups, the week delivered a chance to follow their teams across the world and be part of a new chapter in NFL history. See the official game recap and highlights.
